Pair of Vintage Empire Style Gilt Swan Wall Sconces – Opaline Glass Tulip Shades
A decorative pair of wall sconces in the Empire taste, each featuring a gilt swan with outstretched wings, the emblematic motif of Napoleonic design. A reeded, gracefully curved arm carries a white opaline glass tulip shade with a delicate beaded rim, resting on a fluted gilt cup. Elegant and easy to place, this pair suits a bedroom, hallway, or dining room, and works well as bedside lighting.
Late 20th century, made in the neoclassical Empire tradition.
Dimensions (each sconces):
Height: 18 cm (7.1 in)
Depth: 19 cm (7.5 in)
Back plate diameter: 8 cm (3.1 in)
Material: Gilt metal alloy, opaline glass
Lights: One light per sconce (two lights in total for the pair)
Condition: Good vintage condition
Sockets: Each sconce is fitted with 1 European E14 socket. US buyers may wish to use E14-compatible bulbs sourced locally, or have the sockets converted by an electrician if standard US E26/candelabra bulbs are preferred.
Wiring note: These fixtures are hardwired (no plug) and installed by an electrician, just like any chandelier or sconce. The European wiring works perfectly on US current — lower voltage means less strain, not more. Note: as with most European lighting, they do not carry UL certification.
Sold as a pair. Carefully packed and shipped from France. Message with any questions!
