French Empire Style Gilt Bronze & Painted Tole Chandelier – Swan Motif – Attributed to Maison Petitot – 6-Light

A truly refined chandelier in the Empire taste, its deep bottle-green painted tole bowl banded with gilt bronze rosettes and acanthus leaves, flanked by six exquisitely cast gilt bronze swans with outstretched wings — the emblematic motif of Napoleonic Empire design. Suspended from an ornate gilt ceiling cap on three decorative chains, this piece is attributed to the celebrated Parisian bronze house Maison Petitot, renowned for their fine Empire and neoclassical bronzes, though unsigned.

Dating from the 1950s, in the enduring Empire revival tradition, this elegant chandelier brings serious French sophistication to a formal dining room or grand entryway.

Dimensions:
Diameter: 58 cm (22.8 in)
Total height: 60 cm (23.6 in)

Material: Gilt bronze, painted tole
Condition: Very good overall condition, with two light teeth to the underside of the bowl, visible in photo 2. The original wiring is old but in working order.
Sockets: Fitted with 6 European E14 sockets. US buyers may wish to use E14-compatible bulbs sourced locally, or have sockets converted by an electrician if standard US E26/candelabra bulbs are preferred.
Wiring note: This fixture is hardwired (no plug) and installed by an electrician, just like any chandelier or sconce. The original European wiring works perfectly on US current — lower voltage means less strain, not more. Note: as with most vintage European lighting, it does not carry UL certification. Given the age of this wiring, some buyers choose to have it inspected or replaced by a licensed electrician for extra peace of mind.
