Pair of Art Deco Gilt Brass Wall Sconces – Opalescent Pressed Glass Tulip Shades – 2-Light Each – 1930s

A handsome pair of Art Deco wall sconces from the 1930s. Each sconce has a rectangular gilt brass back plate with a fluted central column, from which two curved arms sweep outward, decorated with delicate brass scrolls. Each arm ends in a brass cup holding a tulip-shaped shade in pressed opalescent glass, with a scalloped petal rim and a finely molded geometric pattern. When lit, the opalescent glass gives off a soft, milky glow with a hint of blue. Four tulips in all, for a clean, elegant pair that suits a bedroom, hallway or bathroom vanity.

Material: brass, pressed opalescent glass

Condition: Good vintage condition with light oxidation to the brass, consistent with age. In good working order. Please note a small hole in one of the wall plates, visible in the photos.

Sockets: Each sconce is fitted with 2 European B22 bayonet sockets (4 in total for the pair), not the US-standard E26 screw base. US buyers will need either B22-to-E26 adapters (inexpensive and widely available) or to have the sockets converted by an electrician.

Wiring note: These fixtures are hardwired (no plug) and installed by an electrician, just like any sconce. The European wiring works perfectly on US current — lower voltage means less strain, not more. Note: as with most vintage European lighting, they do not carry UL certification.
