This large gilded bronze mirror is from France, circa 1880, and was made in the style of Louis XIV.
The intricate bronze doré frames have a large cartouche at the top of the frame that depicts a mascaron. Mascarons are faces, usually human, that were used for centuries in architectural structures. They were placed on the walls to prevent evil spirits from entering the building. Eventually, mascarons were adapted into ornamentation on furniture and accessories.
The mirror is in great condition and is surrounded by a molded border. The back side of the glass is secured by an original tin plate that is screwed into the back of the frame.
